Oman’s Minister of Oil and Gas: Gas & LNG are an important commodity in the Middle East
During the recent Gas & LNG Middle East Summit, its patron His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy addressed the audience in his welcome speech, highlighting the importance of the growth in the Gas and LNG industry in the Middle East.
Touching upon the future of the market, His Excellency said that the Middle East will maintain its position as a major gas and LNG hub, revealing new discoveries of LNG and the extensive growth of liquefied natural gas import in the region’s east.
The Summit, hosted by Oman LNG and organised by Wisdom Events, gathered a number of high-profile industry executives and experts who echoed the Minister’s stance on the significance of gas on a local and international scale.
According to the presentation by Elias Kassis, Vice-President North Africa at Total Exploration & Production, there will be a large increase in gas and renewables share of electricity generation by 2040. It creates great opportunities for the gas industry in the Middle East, especially the strategically located Sultanate of Oman where the Summit took place, as stated in another talk by Shell’s Vice President Ventures East, Asje Tempelman.
Other presentations and panel discussions shed light on investment opportunities, market supply & demand trends, ways to ensure industry sustainability and development, innovative & cost-effective solutions, monetising gas and unlocking the potential of gas resources. The speakers included global gas & LNG professionals from such companies as Creon Capital, Wärtsilä, Poten & Partners, WorleyParsons, Global Energy Ventures and Baker Hughes, a GE Company among other leading companies.
Key industry influencers and decision-makers also had the opportunity to socialise and network at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre during the BB Energy sponsored Cocktail Reception and the prestigious Gala Dinner, sponsored by PETRONAS. The latter included the Gas & LNG Industry Awards Ceremony where companies and individuals were recognised for their tremendous contributions to the Middle Eastern gas sector.
The ceremony was conducted with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas His Excellency Salim al Aufy & Wisdom Events Chief Executive Officer Simonas Raiselis presenting the highly coveted awards to the winners. They included WorleyParsons (Most Accomplished EPC Contractor), Daleel Petroleum (Most Efficient Oil and Gas Industry Developer in Oman), Wärtsilä (Most Exceptional Service Provider), Shell (Most Accomplished Gas Producer), Oman LNG (Best Contribution to the Development of LNG Value Chain), OAPEC (Intergovernmental Organisation of the Year) and Raoul Restucci, Managing Director of Petroleum Development Oman, was awarded as the Gas Executive of the Year.
The support of His Excellency and the attendance of important officials, Gas & LNG industry executives, key decision-makers and experts with world-class speakers providing vital insights and knowledge ensured that the Summit was a spectacular success. An even bigger exhibition for oil & gas professionals is being planned for next year, once again in the amazing setting of the Sultanate of Oman.
